Why Utah

A traveler's overview

Utah's southern half is the densest concentration of national parks in the country — Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands. The Wasatch Front in the north is mountain country with serious skiing. The space between is BLM land most travelers don't know is open to them.

CurbNTurf hosts cluster around Moab, the Bryce-Zion corridor, and the Wasatch Back. Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the sweet spots; summer in the south is brutal.

Things to do

Roads, food, and seasons in Utah

Drive UT-12 from Bryce east to Capitol Reef. Hundred-twenty-four miles, two hours without stops, plan a full day. Hogback Ridge between Boulder and Escalante is one of the most exposed driving stretches in the country.

Mighty Five trip: 7–10 days minimum to do them all without rushing. Add Grand Staircase-Escalante and Goblin Valley as the connective tissue. Permits for the Wave (in Arizona but accessed from Kanab) require a daily lottery.

Summer south of I-70 routinely hits 100+ degrees. Hike at sunrise, rest mid-day, hike again at sunset. Carry water like your trip depends on it — because it does.
