Why Florida

A traveler's overview

Florida rewards travelers who get off I-95 and I-75. The Panhandle's emerald-water beaches feel like a different state from Miami. The springs belt in the north has clearer water than the Caribbean. The Keys are their own country.

CurbNTurf hosts trend coastal — the Keys, Apalachicola, and a few inland near the springs. Winter (December–March) is high season; summer is hot, humid, and storm-prone. The reward of summer is having a place mostly to yourself.

Things to do

Roads, food, and seasons in Florida

Snorkel or paddle the springs — Ginnie, Ichetucknee, Three Sisters, Silver Glen — for water that stays 72 degrees year-round and visibility that can hit 200 feet.

The Overseas Highway to Key West is a destination in itself. Plan three days minimum: Marathon, Bahia Honda, Key West. Sunrise from Bahia Honda Bridge is the photo you're thinking of.

Hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in September. If you're traveling then, watch the National Hurricane Center five-day cone and have a flex window in your itinerary.
